Books and Bling

Scored on children's books last trip, including a book I had been looking for for years. It's great getting that op shop payoff feeling.

Some Australian authors- Ruth Park with The Muddle-headed Wombat, and the poet C.J. Dennis with an illustrated version of his poem Hist!

The artwork in the book are lithograph prints, which is an interesting style I haven't come across in children's books much.

This is a lovely fairy tale type story where the Princess saves her kingdom from the bad archduke. The illustrations are gorgeous.

I love how the princess is an ordinary looking little girl, and her father the king wears glasses.

Some books bought for when my boys are a little older. Another Paul Jennings book for the collection, and the first book in the fantasy Rowan of Rin series by Emily Rodda. My son is called Rohan, so I couldn't resist.

Here's my major find of the trip: Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T.S. Elliot. This was one of my Grandma's favourite books. We used to spend afternoons as kids putting tracing paper over the pictures and tracing pictures of the cats to make our own cat artworks, while our Grandma would read us the poems. I was mad about cats as a child, and loved to write my own cat poetry. When my Grandma died the book was given to my Aunty (her daughter) as I suspect she had similar lovely memories. I became determined to find my own copy. This book is in great condition too- I am so lucky!

And just a bit of bling to end the trip with. The bracelet in the middle was tossed in for free when I pointed out the elastic was degrading.

Journeys into the Past

Popped into my local op shop today, and was delighted to find yet another book in the Journeys into the Past series. This is the fourth book I have found in various op shops in this set. You can see my other ones here.

I thought this game would be good for Mr7, but when I popped it into the playstation 2, it didn't work. Oh well, at least I'm only out $2.

A shirt for Mr 7. Not a big fan of the colour, but he needs some size 7 shirts.

A jumper for Mr 4, orange is a good colour on him, and he's a ninja turtles fan after I showed them the 80s cartoon I used to watch as a kid. :-)

I also had some jewelry to show you, but the lady at the shop must have missed seeing it on the counter, and it didn't come home in my bag. I'm going to pop back in on Monday on the small chance it is still there.

Cheeseboard

Here's a quickie- a cute cheeseboard. I love the retro design on the tile. Now I just have to find a knife to go with it. The little dark circle is a magnetic spot which will hold the knife on the board. Ingenious, no?
